Himes will help us achieve meaningful healthcare reform
[Sept. 15, 2008] Although most of us hear about the presidential candidates' plans on healthcare reform, it will be the Congress who will be ultimately crafting and passing any new legislation. The current 11-term incumbent for the 4th District finally came up with a healthcare reform proposal in February. The legislation would have created a plan similar to that of members of Congress and it is similar to plans previously proposed. These proposals make their sponsors look good to their constituents, but, because of the prohibitive costs involved, have no chance of passing. Predictably, the legislation is going nowhere.
Jim Himes, the incumbent’s opponent, has an extensive business background and understands the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the healthcare system in a cost effective, yet user-friendly system. Jim’s election to Congress will be an important addition to the Majority Party and thus make it more likely that there will be meaningful healthcare reform.
